Reflection:
Joshua loved and served the Lord better than most. He was born into slavery in Egypt and knew the pain of the whip and hard work. Joshua was a military leader who knew how to plan campaigns, was disciplined and above all prayed and trusted God in every situation. Joshua was the ultimate faithful soldier. He was a servant of Moses for many years and learned to be faithful under Moses. When he and Caleb spied out the land of Canaan, he recommended moving forward under God when others were afraid. When the time came for a new leader for Israel, Joshua was the obvious choice. He became a “saviour” figure who prepared Israel for the ultimate Saviour in Jesus. As Joshua summoned the whole nation together at the Covenant Renewal at Shechem, he challenged the people to remain faithful to God and made a wonderful commitment that he and his household would serve the Lord.
Joshua had a strong faith and was determined that he and his family would continue to serve the Lord. Do you have that same absolute commitment to serving Jesus today? What does that faithfulness look like in the way you live each day?

Prayer:
Father, as you worked in the lives of the great men of the past, men like Abraham, Joshua and David who were also soldiers in their time, please be with our armed forces today. Give me courage today that I and my household may serve the Lord in whatever ways you lead me. I pray this in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
