Reflection: The Prince of Peace
This well-known passage is often used in Christmas messages, and rightly so. Here is a prophecy given to God’s people centuries before the birth of Jesus. The prophecy is of an individual, a unique person who is a Child, a Son, a Ruler, a Wonderful Counsellor, a Mighty God an Everlasting Father and a Prince of Peace. Only Jesus fits the bill. There is no real peace without this person. There may be the absence of hostilities, there may be an abundance of wealth and success, but without Jesus there is no real peace. Our hearts are restless until they find their rest in him. And after his victorious resurrection from the grave, Jesus’ first words to his disciples back up his role as Prince of Peace, for he says three times to them “Peace be with you” Jn 20:19,21,26.
Where do you look for your peace? Where should you look for it?

Prayer:
Lord, Thank you that you are the Prince of Peace. Thank you that by your finished work on the cross you have won for us perfect peace and restored us into a family relationship with God as Father. Help us to live out our lives trusting in Jesus. In his name we pray, Amen.
