Reflection: This passage of Isaiah addresses the community of Judeans that have returned home from exile. A new day has dawned for the people returned to Jerusalem. Although there are still many problems they face in rebuilding their shattered community, this message by the prophet encourages them in their work of restoration. There are many signposts in this passage that point to the life and ministry of Christ. One major connection is the call to be a light. Jesus said ‘I am the light of the world’ (John 8:12). He was and is the light for all nations. Jesus
also told his disciples to let their light shine before others (Matthew 5:16). By doing so, we will glorify God.
Questions: What does it mean for you to let your light shine? How do you shine the light of Christ in your life?
Prayer: Lord, help us to shine your light through our lives, that we may glorify you.
