Reflection: Faith comes by reading
Most of us reading this are spoiled for choice in the versions and modes of the Scriptures to which we have access. What are you reading this on? A phone? A computer? A printed copy? It is one thing to read God’s word; another to store it in our heart and make it part of us and yet another to delight in it. When I think of delight I think of a young child frolicking in the autumn leaves, throwing them up in the air and squealing with joy, totally absorbed in the moment.
As believers, with ready access to God’s word, we have many opportunities to delight in it. Opportunities to ruminate on it, memorise it, place ourselves in the story and to ponder on what God is saying to us today.
In our times of corporate worship we are invited to delight in God’s words as they are read to us, as we pray them and sing them.
Through many excellent Children’s Bibles, the children in our lives may also delight in God’s word as it is shared and read to them and with them. We have the opportunity to gift the Bible to the older and younger children in our lives; made all the more poignant if they know we are sharing and gifting something we treasure.
What resources do you have at your disposal to help the children in your life to see the value you place on reading and obeying God’s word, and in sharing it with them?
Prayer: Gracious God, thank you for gifting us the Scriptures. We pray today for those who are just now receiving portions of the Bible in their heart language; may they along with us delight in your word as they read and listen to it being read. Help all of us to include the children in our life in our delight in your word that they may also delight in it. Amen.
