Servants of God
1As a matter of fact, my friends, I could not talk to you as I talk to people who have the Spirit; I had to talk to you as though you belonged to this world, as children in the Christian faith. 2 I had to feed you milk, not solid food, because you were not ready for it. And even now you are not ready for it, 3because you still live as the people of this world live. When there is jealousy among you and you quarrel with one another, doesn't this prove that you belong to this world, living by its standards?
Reflection: No-one likes beings treated like a baby. Often, babies don’t like being treated like babies. I remember how keen my daughters were to get on to solid foods after living for the first six months on milk. But when they were in their infancy, they weren’t ready for more. Paul is talking about recognising where you are at, what you need – BUT he’s not advocating staying on milk. Also, note: these verses also show a Christian leader having to treat
people differently, depending upon the maturity of their faith.
Question: Who is a person in your life that could become an “iron sharpens iron” brother or sister in Christ?
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for making it possible for us to be a positive and refining influence in the lives of others. Give me the patience, selflessness and godly character to be someone who, like iron, can sharpen a Christian brother or sister. Please bring such “iron” people into my life. Amen
