Reflection: Blessing Eight – Freedom
In Christ we find and enjoy true freedom. Freedom from sin and shame. Freedom from seeking to please God by our own actions. Freedom to live our lives not in self-service but in the service of others. So today, let’s celebrate the freedom of Jesus in our lives. Let’s give thanks for the empowering gift of the Holy Spirit, who enables us to live a new life in a new way to God’s glory.
Let’s also give thanks for the freedoms we enjoy as fellow citizens. Freedom to associate, freedom to worship, freedom to express our point of view. These freedoms shouldn’t be taken for granted and we need to ensure their continuance. Part of the mission of Jesus was to set people free and we get to play our part to liberate people from injustice today. Even more, we get to point people to the one in whom true freedom is found.
Prayer: Gracious God, we thank you for the freedom we enjoy in your Son Jesus. Thank you for liberating us from the burden of our sin and shame. Keep us from taking advantage of this freedom by living in a selfish and thoughtless ways. Help us to join in Jesus’ mission to liberate all people. Bless us afresh with your Holy Spirit to be the people you want us to be. Amen.
