Reflection: Work that Survives
Death is not far away, and the thought of this causes me to wonder what legacy I will leave. It’s not that I want to be noteworthy; I want to be faithful. These musings cause me to examine the true worth of things. Will I leave behind me the ‘aroma’ of Christ? (2 Corinthians 2:14), or something rather less pleasant?
The Bible makes it clear that if anyone builds a life on any foundation other than Christ Jesus, will not withstand the fire of God’s judgement at the end of time. The reality is, we come to God on God’s terms, not our own. Similarly, if anyone has busied themselves doing things God has not asked them to do, or busied themselves amassing things to serve their ego – their paltry nature will be tested and burnt up in an instant by God’s righteousness. So the question is: What are you building in life that is of true worth? Will it withstand the fire of God’s holiness?
Personally, I want to give myself to the stuff that is of true value. I invite you to join me.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, Every day you give me is a gift. I don’t want to waste a single moment doing anything other than what you want me to do. Please keep me faithful in this.
