What Christians believe...The Basics

Day 4 of 7

CEV

James 5:16

“The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” James 5:16, CEV “Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress.” Psalm 127:28, CEV “And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” John 14:13, CEV

Reflection: Prayer is Powerful

I thank God every day that I grew up with a Mum who had a deep belief in the power of prayer.

As a young man, I found myself far away from God and pursuing a career in professional football. The further I strayed from God, the more serious my Mum’s prayers became. For months, she spent hours in my room, interceding over my pillow and my football boots. She declared Romans 10:15 — that my feet were blessed and called to carry the good news of Jesus Christ.

My Mum’s prayers became reality, as I have spent the past few decades preaching the good news and seeing tens of thousands of young Australians giving their lives to Jesus Christ.

Whatever you need, whatever you are believing for, be encouraged to never give up asking God in prayer. It doesn’t have to be fancy. Your prayers could be desperate words prayed over a pair of shoes. They could be eloquent and long or contained in one a word, like, “Help.” They could even be delivered in the silence of tears.

One thing I know to be true — prayer is powerful.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, I believe in the power of prayer. Help me to never give up and to never give in, because I know that you are always working on my behalf. Amen.
