What Christians believe...The Basics

Day 2 of 7

CEV

John 1:18

“No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.” John 1:18, ESV “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.” 1 Corinthians 11:1, ESV

Reflection: One God

No one has seen the Father except the Son (John 1:18). Some may say Moses saw God in Exodus 33, but we read in that story that it was God’s ‘Glory’ that passed by Moses. How amazing would it have been to even see just part of God through his Glory? It caused Moses’ face to GLOW — that’s amazing.

Paul leans on something interesting in 1 Corinthians 11:1, where he commands his readers to imitate him as he imitates Christ.

So, although no one has ever seen God they did see the Son. In fact, many people saw the Son.

With this in mind, I invite you today to consider the following: what do people see when they look at you?

Do they see Christ at work in you or do they see the god of ‘self’? Are you imitating Christ, or do people see someone living for themselves? We all have some growing to do in this area so that when people look at us, they see someone living the way the ‘One true God’ intended us to; so that when they look at us, they see Jesus in us. With God’s help this is possible.

Prayer:

God, I thank you that there is no one greater than you. You are the one true God. You are my King. Today I ask that you would help me to be like you. Help me to talk like you; to love like you and imitate you. I pray that when people look at me, they would see your power at work. Amen.
