Reflection: Love
Our Lord Jesus Christ demonstrated his love by giving his life for us. Love for others is what distinguishes Christians from others. The word of God emphasises this, when Paul says, ‘If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal’ (1 Corinthians 13:1). The love that Jesus initiated must be shared across generations and nations, and we are tasked with passing it on to others.
When we love others, we are preaching the word with our actions, because Jesus Christ is love. He knew it would be impossible for the people to lay down their lives as he did, or give their resources for the kingdom, unless they are filled with love. He emphasised the importance of loving one another by making it a commandment. Let’s remember that Jesus Christ entrusted us to demonstrate love to others, especially those who are weaker. There are many ways to show love, and we need to be involved as children of God, as this is another very important way to preach the gospel. We must be vessels through which people can see Christ, because of love.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, help me understand the new commandment you gave us. Let me be a vessel through which people can see you, because of my love. Bless me so that I can be kind, caring and show love to your people. I want to show compassion and represent you as I take part in taking the good news to all nations. Amen.
