Reflection: Since 1975, I’ve mastered measuring Milo drinks with my older brother to ensure fairness.
I find this verse perplexing. Let’s not even get into that time he took my last showbag chocolate that DID NOT BELONG TO HIM.
Suffice to say I demanded it back.
I’m hoping I have matured since then. But it certainly is a challenge to do to others what you would have them do to you. To be open handed with what I have and to give generously.
Jesus here (in Luke) doesn’t say to give to those whom you deem worthy of your gift. He says give to everyone who asks you. Or as the Apostle Paul says, be a cheerful giver.
So, from here on out, I commit to maturing from my micro measurement of Milo and give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, but with a cheerful heart.
I want to live in the freedom of generosity that Jesus paid for with his life.
Prayer: Grow in me, Lord, a generous heart. Please teach me to live in the abundance of all you provide for me, so that others know I am your disciple by my love for them. Amen.
