Reflection: I like the idea of being called to be free, but to be honest I’m not sure I want to read the rest of that verse.
I like to think about being called to achieve great things, to be set apart, to be extra! Called to be up the front, in the spotlight, chosen. Called to change the world in a way that no one else can, to be special.
I’m not sure do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love would make it onto my Instagram feed. I don’t always want to be confronted with that reality, but I am called to be free and living in that freedom does not mean indulging myself. It means serving others. Because I can, because I am free, especially free from the enticing indulgence and lies of this world.
I want to live in true freedom.
I want to live in the freedom of generosity that Jesus paid for with his life.
Prayer: It’s a daily struggle, Lord, to resist the temptation to indulge myself. Help me to find freedom in the service of others as you call me to. Amen.
