Reflection:
As my family and I have moved around Australia over the years one thing that has held us in good stead is community. Being part of a community of believers has developed a profound sense of belonging no matter where we have ended up. God’s church and the people in it have been our family, friends and a constant blessing. No matter where you are there is a community of believers who are your brother and sisters in Christ. We are created for community and not to be on our own.
In Acts 2:42-47, Luke describes the church in embryonic form. The key distinctives of this group are teaching centred around the word of God, prayer, shared association (fellowship) and the breaking of bread. This community is attractive and joyful. God honours their meeting and growth is an outworking.
Over the many moves that my family and I have undertaken (seven and counting) we have always been blessed by the people that have welcomed us into their community. It has strengthened our faith, and we hope that we have blessed others that have come into our midst too. So, be encouraged: seek like-minded followers of Jesus, as you move around this great country, who are deeply grounded in God’s teaching, his word.
Prayer:
Lord, I ask that you continue to show me a community of believers that I can do life with. Help me to find people who can spur me on in my Christian walk. Help me to spur others on to love and good deeds (Heb 10:24-25). Thank you that we do not have to do life on our own.
