Series Introduction

Australia is an incredibly beautiful country. We have the Reef to the Outback and everything in between. Australia is a country that also has a rich history in God’s word, the Bible. We can see that Australia and the Bible are intertwined when we consider what God has done, is doing, and will do in the future through his unchanging word.

Reflection:

What an incredible country we live in! We are surrounded by amazing sunsets, the best beaches in the world, mountains, rivers, rainforests and deserts. Do you ever just sit in God’s creation and soak in the glory and wonder that is around you.? We are often so busy that life has us jumping from one event, one social media moment to another.

In its original context, David considers the way in which he can admire God as creator. Informed and guided by God’s word, he is encouraged to do all that is good, true, beautiful and pleasing to God.

Reading Psalm 19, I sometimes consider things that humans have achieved; be it a delightful famous piece of music, a piece of art that someone has sculptured or even a literary masterpiece (I love a good book!). I wonder — how much more glory is due to the Creator of the world? God is the giver of life, and I can celebrate all that he has done. Day after day as the sun rises and sets, we are reminded that God is ever present; he will not deprive us of his warmth, and all of the earth is able to experience his presence through his creation and worship him.

Prayer:

Lord, may the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight. As we stop and sit in your presence may we be reminded of our Rock and Redeemer. We are confident that you will always cause the sun to rise and bring us warmth. As I watch the sunset tonight may this be an ever-present reminder of your glory.

Days

Psalms 19:1-14

Psalm 19

For the director of music. A psalm of David.

1The heavens declare the glory of God;

the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

2Day after day they pour forth speech;

night after night they reveal knowledge.

3They have no speech, they use no words;

no sound is heard from them.

4Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,

their words to the ends of the world.

In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.

5It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,

like a champion rejoicing to run his course.

6It rises at one end of the heavens

and makes its circuit to the other;

nothing is deprived of its warmth.

7The law of the Lord is perfect,

refreshing the soul.

The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,

making wise the simple.

8The precepts of the Lord are right,

giving joy to the heart.

The commands of the Lord are radiant,

giving light to the eyes.

9The fear of the Lord is pure,

enduring forever.

The decrees of the Lord are firm,

and all of them are righteous.

10They are more precious than gold,

than much pure gold;

they are sweeter than honey,

than honey from the honeycomb.

11By them your servant is warned;

in keeping them there is great reward.

12But who can discern their own errors?

Forgive my hidden faults.

13Keep your servant also from willful sins;

may they not rule over me.

Then I will be blameless,

innocent of great transgression.

14May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart

be pleasing in your sight,

Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.
