Reflection: Cancer is fabulous for showing up priorities and values. When my chemo-fogged brain can think clearly enough to notice the posturing of ego and the display of wealth by the rich in society, it all seems so absurd. I feel bewildered by it—as if I’ve woken up in some sort of nightmarish parallel universe.
Why do people on TV reality shows work so hard at looking gorgeous on the outside, and yet be so morally flawed on the inside? Can they really see themselves as they are… or is it only the privilege of the godly and those close to death to see clearly? (Those who stand with God in times of suffering stand in the “thin” place. It is a place where heaven nearly touches earth. The thin place is a very special place of intimacy and revelation.)
So, let’s agree to finish life well, with a reputation for wisdom, godliness and grace—for to do that is to store up true treasure.
Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, Your one passion was to bring glory to the Father. Through your influence, the same thing has become my passion. Please help me fulfil it.
