Reflection: During my battle with cancer, I’ve sometimes been asked if I have a “bucket list”—a list of things I want to do, or places to visit, before I die.
I can’t help but think this is an inadequate, self-indulgent and desperately sad way to end a life! The reality is God’s best plans for us lie ahead of us. It makes no sense to desperately clutch onto the best of the past. I don’t want to end my days in an orgy of self-obsession, feverishly working my way through a bucket list. There are important things to do, people to love and truths to share.
Christians have a high calling. We’ve been given a mission to planet Earth, and I, for one, want to complete it. I want to be able to say, as Jesus did, “It is finished”.
So, let’s co-operate with God and realise the plans he has for us.
Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, I am amazed at the privilege of sharing in your mission to the world. Without you, I am clueless, weak, and lacking in character. So, please be my strength.
