Reflection: We’ve had lots of reminders of what we used to be, what we now are…then against that backdrop we’re reminded to ‘Chin-up’! Lift our weary eyes and groaning spirits to what lies ahead, because hope sustains. Say our salvation were already fully realized, well, then there’d be no need for hope. So, that we hope for what we do not yet perceive…means we keep persisting in anticipation.* Even creation itself strains expectantly to share divine glory.
Meet Saint Lily. Life in this broken world has dealt her some hard blows. And now she’s been diagnosed with an illness that will progressively inhibit her brain and body. She’s been forced to look squarely in the eye of creation’s bondage to decay. But Lily is, in fact, focussed instead on her rich inheritance in Christ. She’s the most quietly generous person I know. You can afford to think generously of others when, despite life’s hardships, the best is yet to come. And that makes Lily a stand-out saint.
Prayer: Lord, you tell us that creation was subjected to vanity and meaninglessness by your sovereign will…in order to one day be released into freedom and glory. Present pain and hardship are no comparison to the glory that will be unveiled in us.** The best is yet to come! Through your Spirit, hone our future-focus and generous spirits.
