Reflection: Dad, Papa, Pops, or Father
I have always wondered what I would be called by my grandchildren – my first granddaughter calls me ‘gam-pa’. Whether we are called Dad, Papa, Pops, or Father, our role as head of the home demands selfless sacrifices with big responsibilities. God commissions a father to care for the children entrusted to him, to teach them God’s ways—leading by example.
But Father’s Day may be challenging for you. Perhaps your father didn’t fulfil his responsibilities as he should have or was abusive. Maybe you grew up without a father, or he’s no longer living. You may feel fatherless.
Whether your father is one of the best or fell short, there’s a perfect Dad waiting to embrace us as his own. His name is God the Father. He’s good and full of unconditional love.
Today is a great day to show love and respect for your child, grandchild, or indeed any child with words of gratitude and affirmation.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for being our heavenly Father. We also want to forgive our earthly father for any hurts or disappointments he may have caused, and now pray that you will guide all fathers with love and wisdom. Amen.
