Reflection: Husbands, Fathers & Children
Whether you are a husband, father, or a child, we all struggle in our relationship with God on Father’s Day, especially if we are single, childless, had an absentee-dad, a divorced dad, or one who was less than ideal.
However, maybe you had a wonderful teacher or a coach; maybe you had a father-figure who was someone else’s dad who always asked how you were doing. Perhaps God showed himself to you through a pastor or Sunday school leader.
Regardless of upbringing, I know for sure that God has worked very hard to make sure you found him—through a real dad, a stepdad, a grandfather, or simply an obedient man. ” A father to the fatherless…” (Psalm 68:5).
I heard that Hallmark gave out free cards to inmates to send on Mother’s and Father’s Day. While they always ran out on Mother’s Day, only a small percentage of cards were used by inmates for Father’s Day.
Question: What does this say about the role of fathers?
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for making it possible for us to know you as our heavenly Father and experience an amazing change in our own life. Amen.
