Reasons to Sing

Day 4 of 14

NIV

Psalms 47:6-9

6Sing praises to God, sing praises;

sing praises to our King, sing praises.

7For God is the King of all the earth;

sing to him a psalm of praise.

8God reigns over the nations;

God is seated on his holy throne.

9The nobles of the nations assemble

as the people of the God of Abraham,

for the kings of the earth belong to God;

he is greatly exalted.

Reflection:

With the end of Christendom and the growing hostility towards Christianity in the west, we, like the Psalmist, can take comfort in the fact that God is king over all of the earth. Our politicians, our media personalities, our lawmakers… they all belong to God. Though it may not seem like it, God reigns over our nation. He is seated on his holy throne. Confident. Capable. He is not threatened by any happenings in our world — and neither should we be.

 If this is true, how should we respond when we see earthly leaders rule in an ungodly way?

Prayer:

Sovereign Lord, you are king of all nations. Help us to live confidently, secure in your goodness and power.  Amen.

Psalms 47:1-9

Psalm 47

For the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm.

1Clap your hands, all you nations;

shout to God with cries of joy.

2For the Lord Most High is awesome,

the great King over all the earth.

3He subdued nations under us,

peoples under our feet.

4He chose our inheritance for us,

the pride of Jacob, whom he loved.

5God has ascended amid shouts of joy,

the Lord amid the sounding of trumpets.

6Sing praises to God, sing praises;

sing praises to our King, sing praises.

7For God is the King of all the earth;

sing to him a psalm of praise.

8God reigns over the nations;

God is seated on his holy throne.

9The nobles of the nations assemble

as the people of the God of Abraham,

for the kings of the earth belong to God;

he is greatly exalted.
