Reasons to Sing

Day 1 of 14

NIV

Psalms 13:6

6I will sing the Lord’s praise,

for he has been good to me.

Series Introduction

For the next two weeks, we’ll be reading through reflections written by Simone Richardson (for Daily Bible in 2015). Together, we’ll discover 14 reasons for us to sing, as God’s people. We’ll read through Scriptures which reveal God’s character, his love, and what he has done for us, his people. As we reflect together, may we be filled with encouragement that, whatever is happening around us, we can experience joy in our God – and be moved to sing!

Reflection:

This is a beautiful verse. Just reading it lifts my heart. I think, “Yes I will sing the Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me!” This is a beautiful verse, but it is even more beautiful when you understand that wasn’t written from a place of happiness but pain. It comes at the end of Psalm 13 — the famous ‘How long, Lord?’ psalm — a psalm of intense suffering and questioning. After expressing his grief and doubt and anguish, the psalmist writes:

But I trust in your unfailing love.

my heart rejoices in your salvation.

I will sing the Lord’s praise,

for he has been good to me. (Psalm 13:5-6)

How has God been good to you? How many ways can you list?

Prayer:

Dear Lord, you have been so good to me! My heart rejoices in your salvation. You have loved me unfailingly and showered me in blessings.  Thank you!  Amen.

Psalms 13:1-6

Psalm 13

For the director of music. A psalm of David.

1How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever?

How long will you hide your face from me?

2How long must I wrestle with my thoughts

and day after day have sorrow in my heart?

How long will my enemy triumph over me?

3Look on me and answer, Lord my God.

Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death,

4and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,”

and my foes will rejoice when I fall.

5But I trust in your unfailing love;

my heart rejoices in your salvation.

6I will sing the Lord’s praise,

for he has been good to me.
