Reflection: “Whom I love”
Love means different things to different people. Somehow it seems that we have lost the depth of the meaning of the word. Perhaps it’s through over-use? We hear people say, “I love my truck. I love my football team. I really love meat pies … Oh and I love you too.” That really puts the special people in our lives amongst some auspicious company. I think not!
But the love of the Father is extravagant and unconditional. It was shown firstly to the Son, and now through the Son to us. Nothing we can do can make him love us more. Nothing we can do can make him love us less. He loves us … full stop.
I’m not loved because I’m valuable; I’m valuable because I’m loved. Jesus knew that as a Son. We can too. We simply need to comprehend how much we are loved. If you ever doubt your worth, you should look to the cross. Not only will you see astonishing courage, but the most powerful demonstration of love humanity has ever witnessed.
Prayer: Lord, I ask you today to help me comprehend the extravagant love you showed us by sending Jesus to die for us. Help me understand the depth of the love you have for me and help me live with the knowledge of my value because of the price that was paid for my soul.
