Reflection: Jesus knew his time on earth was limited and he only had a small window to spread and increase the Kingdom of God in the hearts of people. He reached beyond his nationality, the restrictions of traditions, customs and beliefs to share the love of his Father.
His love had no boundaries. We see it in the Gospels – how he had many following him wherever he went, but he took the time to stop and attend to individuals. We may not have the finances, the resources, the people power to reach a nation, but when we have the heart of the Father burning inside of us as the Church, we can share it with our neighbour.
You can make a difference in the life of an individual by giving them your time and attention. It’s not the big things, it’s the little things most of us can achieve: baking a cake, fixing up someone’s garden, being a friend to someone in need. Love has no barriers, it reaches to the unlovely, the needy, the vulnerable, and those who may appear to have everything yet lack the inner peace of our God in a world that takes instead of giving.
Be reminded of how Jesus stopped for the individual, like the woman with the issue of blood, like Zacchaeus up the tree, like the woman at the well who reached her entire community with the new love she found through Jesus. An individual can make a difference.
Prayer: Lord, I may not be able to go to the world, but I know that you are able to shine your love through me in my home, my workplace, with my friends and in my community. Give me the heart of compassion to reach out beyond who I am to increase and advance the Kingdom of God in and through my life, I ask in Jesus’ name, Amen.
