Physical, emotional and spiritual pain has been an intrinsic part of the human experience. In challenging times, we often lose hope, feel alone and lost. In such times the Bible reveals the character and attributes of God to a world that desperately needs him. One of God’s most visible characteristics is his compassion. At the heart of the Bible’s message is the theme of love and compassion. God is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and overflowing with loyal love and faithfulness (Joel 2:13). Thinking about love and compassion, the Bible invites us to imagine a mother’s tender feelings for her child. That is how deep God’s love and mercy is towards his people. It teaches forgiveness, kindness and empathy as essential virtues to foster harmonious relations and create a just society. Love and Compassion are key Bible themes that form the foundation of Bible Society of Kenya’s work, as we seek to transform people through the word of God, especially those dealing with pain and suffering. In this series, Anne reflects on different ways we can embrace love and compassion in our lives and how we relate and react to the world around us.
