Series Introduction
This Christmas, amidst the celebrations, the frantic last-minute shopping, and all that wrapping, we invite you to take a moment each day to pause and reflect on the word of God. This season we celebrate the great light of the world, who entered into our darkness to illuminate everything.
Reflection:
I remember vividly the year my husband and I introduced our two young daughters to Christmas Carols. It was a hit! The girls were dancing and crooning along as we searched for the Christmas baubles that our toddler had hidden in her bedroom, and (re)decorated the tree for the umpteenth time!
We were making a joyful noise *apologies to the neighbours* when Oh Holy Night began to play. That beautiful line washed over us, “A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices, for yonder breaks, a new and glorious morn.” Quite suddenly I was moved to tears.
A weary world indeed we were back then, and still are today. We face difficult times, globally, nationally and perhaps personally too. Despite all this, there’s something about Christmas that shifts us. The burdens and battles dissipate as we remember all that God has promised, which was given to us through Jesus Christ, the great light by whom all things are illuminated.
For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given.
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6 (NKJV)
As we reflect upon our Saviour Jesus, and all that his life, death and resurrection accomplished for us this Christmas, I pray that you would be renewed by joy, invigorated by hope, and illuminated by his light.
Prayer:
Lord, thank you for the extravagant love that you’ve shown us by giving your son Jesus for our salvation. Help us to receive more of that love and be revived by it. Amen.
