Reflection:  In Matthew 5, Jesus teaches about the use of salt for flavouring: “But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?” What Jesus is saying here is that those who live by the ethics of the kingdom (v. 3-12), and put them into practice in daily life, will live authentic Christian lives – they are the real deal; they are salt in a world that so desperately needs flavour.
One of the widespread accusations that people use against the church is that it is full of hypocrites. There is no doubt we have our fair share of hypocrites in the church, as there are in every sphere of life. How wonderful it is, though, when you meet genuine people, where what you see is what you get. These are the people who “let their light shine before others who see their good deeds and praise our Father in heaven” (v. 16)
Make it a point to be an authentic Christian!
Prayer:Â Lord, as I go out into this day, I am the salt and light that my workplace, friends, and family need. May they see my good deeds and glorify you.
