Reflection:Â In Jesus’ day, people believed that God’s Kingdom would be ushered in with a great show of physical strength and that Israel would rise above Roman rule! Amid this popular belief, Jesus taught about peace, mercy, and meekness.
I’ve heard people mistake the teachings of Jesus for weakness, but Jesus was meek, not weak. Meekness is “power under control.” For example, Jesus said, “Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?” (Matt 26:53). Jesus had the power, but he chose not to use it.
Invariably, God’s way will be different from the way of the world, because we belong to the Kingdom of God – a kingdom of opposites!
Prayer: ‘Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will. ‘ (Romans 12:2)
Use Romans 12:2 as a basis for prayer today and ask God to help you to think with his thoughts.
