Reflection: God’s got plans for you
Theologians are an odd bunch. Some of them are advocates of “open theism”. Open theism proposes that God has chosen to limit his power so that he is able to respond to people’s prayers on a day-to-day level. This means that God has not locked everything into place with a foreordained plan.
Personally, I don’t find open theism convincing. The reality is: God knows everything. So whilst God gives us the free will to ask him for things, he stands outside of time and already knows what we will pray for. And despite knowing the outcome ahead of time, God can still enjoy our surprise, much as a father enjoys the surprise of a child unwrapping a Christmas present, even though the father knows what’s inside it.
What is not in dispute is that God has plans for you. Imagine that! The God of the universe has plans he longs to share when you draw close to him.
Prayer: Dear Father, thank you for being “good” in every way that is possible. In the light of your goodness, I entrust myself and my ministry to your care.
