Reflection: Check 4 – Seize opportunities
Opportunities can be sacred entrustments, so use them well. But here’s the question: how do you know what is an opportunity and what is a distraction?
An answer can be gained by asking three questions:
- Is the opportunity in sync with your convictions, passions and giftedness?
- Will it grow your ministry, your maturity and/or the wellness of others?
- Will it give God glory?
These questions will help you discern whether the new circumstance offers you a breakthrough.
We must also face the fact that circumstances can sometimes appear to block what you believe to be a God-given course of action. When this happens, ask God if you need to revise your plans… and if not, persist. I say this because there is typical pattern that follows a God-given revelation. As many Christians can attest, what often follows is a period of setbacks that appear to make the realisation of your revelation unlikely. All you can do during this time is hang on to the thin thread of faith.
Breakthrough usually follows.
And finally, please don’t waste your time grieving over lost opportunities. God will always give you what you need to live his purpose – at any point in life – if you want it.
Prayer: Dear Father, in giving me life, you have given me an awfully big adventure. I want to live my purpose faithfully, so I ask that you tune my ears to hear your gentle voice guiding me.
