Reflection*
When we have the Holy Spirit dwelling within us, we see with a united eye, so that we begin to see everything the same way that God does. This is possible when we surrender ourselves to God in a divine union of trust.
It takes discipline to live this way in a world that emphasises a need for facts, thoughts and knowledge. We need to remind ourselves that there are other ways of knowing in our spirit that are equally important and come from quiet observation and open stillness. We can foster the skill for doing this when we notice, breathe and pray.
When we choose to live this way consistently, we start to understand what it means to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17), and our experience of prayer changes. The Holy Spirit enables us to see through and with God’s eyes.
Prayer
Dear God, by your Holy Spirit, enable me to see with your eyes. May I surrender myself to you in a divine union of trust.
*In this series, each day’s devotion will be structured a little differently than our usual Daily Bible devotions, as Dr Thompson offers a Bible passage for reflection, and teaches us practical contemplative exercises that can assist with finding peace when everything around us seems difficult and hopeless.
