Reflection: Moved by the Holy spirit

I’m unsure if there are many nations with Bibles but no Christians, but Mongolia was one such country. 

In the 1820s, a team led by Swan and Stallybrass from the British and Foreign Bible Society (BFBS) arrived in Buryatia (formerly part of Mongolia) to translate and publish the Bible by 1846. The challenges they faced and the journey they undertook are almost unimaginable today. Without the guidance, persuasion, and assistance of the Holy Spirit, their task would have been impossible. The Holy Spirit not only inspires the writing of Scripture but also aids in its translation. Working alongside them were Buryat people, Nomt and Badma, who assisted in translating the Bible. They were also guided by the Holy Spirit, although some may have strayed later. 

In 1990, during democratic reforms, a New Testament was translated into modern Mongolian and distributed, leading to a small number of Mongolians gathering in Christ’s name.  

2 Timothy 3:16 reminds us that “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” The Bible isn’t solely for believers; Christ came for all humanity, including Mongolians.

God, please use me to spread your word. May all people, not only those living in Mongolia, but everyone living in every corner of the world come to hear your word.
