Reflection: What’s your internal monologue telling you about yourself today? Does it know that you were made in God’s image? We are dignified before we are even born! If this is so, self-respect becomes a spiritual matter, something we do as part of our Christian character rather than an indulgence. And so it is also with others. They are made to be treated according to the dignity with which God has imbued them, even those who disagree with us on the internet. In fact, the Bible tells us that how we treat others IS how we treat our father in Heaven. Of course, there is a giant problem with this – we are not always lovely, and neither are those that we are called to love – but more on that tomorrow!
Question: In your own thought-life, how does your self-worth stack up with being an image bearer of God’s? What can you do today to lift up someone who is struggling in this area?
Prayer: Father God, help me to see myself as you see me – dignified, loved and made in your image. Help me to forgive others and myself as you have done. Amen.
