Reflection: Jesus is the gate to God’s Kingdom
In this wonderful passage we see Jesus introducing a great truth using farming imagery from first century Jewish culture. He desires that people understand what it means to come to him and follow him.
Jesus is the gateway, and no one can enter into God’s kingdom except through him. He is the exclusive means by which someone can be saved. Although there is only one entry, the entry – Jesus – is available to all people, in all places. No matter who you are or how you see yourself, God truly invites you to come to him through Jesus Christ.
The sheep are those that have heard his voice, those that have trusted in Jesus as the Son of God by believing in is sacrificial death for our sins, his burial and is resurrection from the dead. Scripture reveals that any other door, method, or belief outside of Jesus steers us away from the truth, away from the source of life, the Great Shepherd, the gate into the kingdom of joy, where we are invited into a living relationship with God, who loves us so much.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, we pray that you may help us to be discerning in a world full of information, opinion and personal truths. May you give us the strength to trust you every day and to discern when the world seeks to influence us with beliefs that are contrary to your truth. Help us to keep trusting you and to keep our faith in you. Jesus, you are the Saviour. We thank you for that in your name, Amen
