Reflection:
When the miracle happened at the Beautiful Gate, the crowd ran toward it. When Zacchaeus heard that Jesus was passing though Jericho, he ran to see him. When the women found the empty tomb in Jerusalem, they ran to tell the other disciples. Running is an appropriate response to such good news.
David Thomas, one of the leaders of the Asbury revival in 2023, described a divine awakening as “an urgent marathon”. It is an apt description of the mission of the church. It is a mission which requires a desperate and eternal thirst for the things of God. Hunger and thirst are necessary attributes of the kingdom of heaven. The hungry are filled with good things. The thirsty receive the Spirit of God. This was both the pattern of the early church and also the practice of historical revivals. If we are going to see a revival in Australia, we need to be desperate for it. Revivals require desperation.
Prayer:
Father God, I praise your holy Name. Thank you that you have promised the comfort and companionship of the Holy Spirit. Please give me a renewed thirst for the Holy Spirit in my life and please awaken a renewed desperation for revival in your church. I ask this in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
