Reflection:
When the lame man was healed at the Beautiful Gate, the crowds came running to the temple to see the miracle for themselves. They were filled with wonder and amazement at this God-given sign (Acts 3:1-11). But they were also astonished that God would use such flawed and inexperienced people as Peter and John. They concluded that this was the work of Jesus Christ.
This reaction is common in revivals around the world. In one awakening in India in 1905, the missionary, Amy Carmichael, expressed astonishment both at the ‘hurricane of prayer’ that swept through the congregation and also the crowds of outsiders who came to witness the event. She had never seen anything like it before, especially among the normally quiet and reserved community. If we are going to see revival in Australia, we need to return to a sense of wonder concerning the works of God. Revivals require astonishment.
Prayer:
Father God, I praise your holy Name. Thank you that you are a God of miracles. May you restore a sense of wonder in the church and in my life. May your divine interventions transform our lives and point people to the Lord Jesus Christ. I ask this in his Name. Amen.
