Reflection:
One of the hallmarks of the early church was that everyone was involved. There was no clergy laity divide. Everyone was filled with the Spirit, everyone prayed, and everyone had a spiritual gift which they shared with the community for the common good. The believers didn’t attend church, they were the church. Although, tragically, divisions appeared, especially in Corinth, everyone came to the services expecting to serve. Everyone was encouraged to be a valued participant.
This was also the story of revivals around the world. For instance, the Azusa Street revival in 1906 was marked by the engagement of each and every member of the congregation. If we are going to see revival in Australia, each one of us needs to be actively involved. Revivals require participation.
Prayer:
Father God, I praise your Name. Thank you that you have distributed gifts to each one of us, by your Holy Spirit. Help me to discover my gifts and how I may add value to my community, for the glory of God. I ask this in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen
