The Kids are All Right

Day 14 of 14

NIV

1 John 3:1-3

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.

Reflection:  I hope you agree with me that our short series about the children of God deserves such a grand finale as the beginning of the third chapter of 1 John. Maybe you quickly read over it as you hurried along to read these choice words. While that’s very kind of you, stop reading this and go back to God’s words above. Lap up the richness of what it outlines about this life – and the next – for God’s children. Do you SEE what great love the Father has lavished on us? During the past two weeks of this series, have you laid your spiritual eyes upon the staggering love outlandishly heaped upon those who put their faith and trust in God’s one and only Son? Do you KNOW that when that beloved Son, Jesus, returns, the children of God will be like him? The promise of being fully ‘Christlike’ when he comes back should be one of many reasons that I – and you, hopefully – embrace being the wholehearted children of God’s lavish love that he so desires us to be.

Question:  What are some things you have learned about being a child of God that you need to prayerfully implement in your life? Feel free to make a list and get praying.

Prayer:  Father God, your lavish love is so vast that it even can extend to a sinner like me and transform me into your child, through faith in Jesus Christ. Keep me looking hopefully to Jesus’ return, when I shall be like him. Amen.
