Reflection: With COVID-19 causing a massive spike in enforced family time this year, the ‘stay at home’ overtone of 2020 led inevitably, and rightly, to a lot of attention upon children. But just as I think it’s superb that many of us were compelled to devote extra discussion and brain space to caring for the kids in our lives, I also hope 2020 is a year in which you have focused anew on being a child of God. With all that has been going on, though, maybe you have not paused to consider how big a deal it is to be what John 1 declares someone to be. If you have received and believed in the name of Jesus, you were given the right to become a child of God. God’s child! The true light blazed in the world and revealed how to have the ultimate parent-child relationship. While the world created by God continues to ignore its source, it thankfully remains possible to become God’s child. And that means more and more people can open their arms wide to receive the eternal embrace of God, through his son Jesus Christ.
Question: If you are someone who has received Jesus, are you acting as if you do not recognise him? How might you be able to fully embrace being a child of God?
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that I can be your child. Inspire me each day to praise your son Jesus, who I have received and in whose name I powerfully believe. Amen.
