Reflection: “O come all ye faithful”
What do you hold in high regard, or worship? Society worships many things, from celebrities to possessions. This classic Christmas carol, “Oh come all ye faithful” speaks about the shepherds coming into Bethlehem to meet and worship the newborn King. What a sight that must have been for them.
This carol signifies and celebrates people all over the world coming together and worshipping our Lord, Jesus Christ.
As we step into Christmas this year, many celebrations will be taking place. We have the opportunity to come together and once again, let the Christmas story bring hope and joy to our hearts as we too worship Jesus Christ.
“O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant!
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem;
Come and behold him
Born the King of Angels:
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.
God of God, light of light,
Lo, he abhors not the Virgin’s womb;
Very God, begotten, not created:
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.
Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation,
Sing, all ye citizens of Heaven above!
Glory to God, glory in the highest:
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.
Yea, Lord, we greet thee, born this happy morning;
Jesus, to thee be glory given!
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing!
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.”
“O Come, all ye faithful”, translated by Frederick Oakeley, 1841
Prayer:
Thank you, Lord, for the birth of your Son Jesus Christ. Thank you that we get to celebrate His birth again this year. May our hearts be filled with wonder, joy and hope this Christmas.
