Reflection:

Remember the story of the woman who bathes Jesus’ feet with her perfume and tears? Jesus commends her as one who has received mercy and overflows with love sharing her perfume. Remember the story of the unmerciful servant who receives mercy but won’t cancel the financial debt of another? Jesus repeatedly calls us to be merciful. Blessed are the merciful, the generous, those who share, the compassionate, for they are like their Heavenly Father who is well known for being merciful. It is because of the generous mercy of our God that Jesus can confidently say, they will receive mercy!

How can you share generously just like your Heavenly Father today?

Prayer:

Father, I thank you for your abundant mercy. As I consider Jesus’ death at Easter, I am aware of the great costliness to you of showing mercy.

Thank you that you are gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love.

Make me merciful like you.

Amen.
