Reflection:
On Palm Sunday, the day when Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, he perfectly illustrated for us this Beatitude and what it is to be meek. Fully surrendered and obedient to God, not avoiding conflict or being a doormat, but meek before God and useful for his purposes and work, Jesus faced the cross. This deep humility results in great vindication and honouring of Jesus. We are called to follow in his footsteps with the promise that we will inherit the earth, a beautiful image of the age to come.
How can you fully surrender yourself to God today?
In verse 6, Jesus says those who hunger and thirst for things to be put right, will be filled. Our hungering will result in action, with a heart ready to see God at work we will be part of releasing the oppressed and restoring the excluded, announcing good news and offering hope and friendship to those who are cast out. And in all this we hunger in the knowledge that we will be filled, that God is bringing in his kingdom and he will put the world to right.
How can you hunger for God to act in your world today?
Prayer:
Father, thank you for the Lord Jesus’ meekness, his great obedience to you at all costs. Make me more like him, help me to be fully surrendered to you today, a useful instrument for your purposes.
Thank you that you are at work in the world. Thank you that you have acted in Jesus and that you will complete your work and put things right. Help me be hungry for you to put things right and to be your hands and feet today. Amen.
