Sing to the Lord

Day 7 of 7

NIV

Psalms 148:1-6

Psalm 148

1Praise the Lord.

Praise the Lord from the heavens;

praise him in the heights above.

2Praise him, all his angels;

praise him, all his heavenly hosts.

3Praise him, sun and moon;

praise him, all you shining stars.

4Praise him, you highest heavens

and you waters above the skies.

5Let them praise the name of the Lord,

for at his command they were created,

6and he established them for ever and ever—

he issued a decree that will never pass away.

Reflection: Sing praises to our amazing creator God

All creatures of our God and King
Lift up your voice and with us sing
O praise Him! Alleluia!
Thou, burning sun with golden beam
Thou, silver moon with softer gleam

Let all things their Creator bless
And worship Him in humbleness
O praise Him! Alleluia!
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son
And praise the Spirit, Three in One
O praise Him! O praise Him!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

All the redeemed washed by His blood
Come and rejoice in His great love
O praise Him! Alleluia!
Christ has defeated every sin
Cast all your burdens now on Him
O praise Him! O praise Him!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

He shall return in pow’r to reign
Heaven and earth will join to say
O praise Him! Alleluia!
Then who shall fall on bended knee?
All creatures of our God and King
O praise Him! O praise Him!
Alleluia! Alleluia!

Praise God from whom all blessings flow
Praise Him, all creatures here below
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost

All Creatures of Our God and King

We finish our week singing praises to our amazing creator God.

St Francis of Assisi lived between 1181 and 1226. He led a life as an itinerant preacher, often shunning material wealth. He is attributed as the author of the lyrics to this amazing song.

I’ve found the last few weeks particularly difficult as I’ve been very busy managing a number of different priorities, all competing for my attention. It’s easy to get caught up in our own busyness, isn’t it?

We need to remember to find the time to be mindful of our awesome Creator and all he has done for us. To remember that all of creation cries out in praise. To remember, at his command, all things were brought in to being. To remember we are part of his creation, and the creator of the universe brought us into existence in his image. Praise him!

Prayer: We lift up our voices and we sing praises to you, our Creator. We are the redeemed washed by the blood of your precious Son. Christ has defeated every sin, and we can cast all our burdens on him.  Jesus, return in power to reign. Heaven and earth join to praise you. We fall on bended knee in your presence. Praise the Lord from the heavens and in the heights above.  Amen.

Psalms 148:1-14

Psalm 148

1Praise the Lord.

Praise the Lord from the heavens;

praise him in the heights above.

2Praise him, all his angels;

praise him, all his heavenly hosts.

3Praise him, sun and moon;

praise him, all you shining stars.

4Praise him, you highest heavens

and you waters above the skies.

5Let them praise the name of the Lord,

for at his command they were created,

6and he established them for ever and ever—

he issued a decree that will never pass away.

7Praise the Lord from the earth,

you great sea creatures and all ocean depths,

8lightning and hail, snow and clouds,

stormy winds that do his bidding,

9you mountains and all hills,

fruit trees and all cedars,

10wild animals and all cattle,

small creatures and flying birds,

11kings of the earth and all nations,

you princes and all rulers on earth,

12young men and women,

old men and children.

13Let them praise the name of the Lord,

for his name alone is exalted;

his splendor is above the earth and the heavens.

14And he has raised up for his people a horn,

the praise of all his faithful servants,

of Israel, the people close to his heart.

Praise the Lord.
