Reflection: If you talk about purity to young adults, you can expect some baleful expressions. This is not surprising. Their minds are a seething cauldron of desires and anxieties. So, do be careful not to lay a guilt trip on them. Instead, love, coax and encourage… and above all, model the way of Christ.
Encouraging purity is more than telling people to hit the mute button on their hormones. Young people are looking for direction. They are questioning how they will live and what they will become.
Today’s verse gives us a fabulous tool to help all of us in our quest to be pure. It is a piece of wisdom. The wisdom is this: Soak yourself in the truths of the Bible. Become familiar with its teaching, its principles and the promises God wants you to take hold of.
Another tip from today’s passage is this: Learn key verses, i.e. hide God’s word in your heart. If you do, you will never be bereft of God’s wisdom.
Prayer: Loving Father, you claim all of my heart – and I gladly give it to you. Please give me an addiction to your word, so that your truth and wisdom are always close to me.
