Reflection: Jesus Christ — God incarnate
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14
Most prodigies are exceptionally curious, like Stanislaw Szukalski. As a little guy he was intrigued by the brilliance of the sun, and wondered how long he could stare at its light. He’d go on to become a world-famous Polish sculptor — but not without paying a price for that experiment. For the rest of his life a large black dot scarred his vision.
Light.
Seems hardly a better way to get attention than to beam a spotlight into darkness.
And, explains the Gospel of John, that’s exactly what God did.
Shazaaam!
Light – personified light, sent blazing into our dark and dying world.
And don’t take this for any ol’ light.
This light never dies. It can never be snuffed out.
Light that outshines Darkness-personified…because it’s true…and full of grace.
I think I’d feast my eyes on that Light, for all its glory. Let it bore a hole into my cornea.
John goes on to say, This Light is Life itself. And it’s life-giving in a dying world.
There were glimmers/foreshadowing’s of it in the past.
But, says John, most of our dying world lost all curiosity and care when this Light lit up Life.
The Son rose and it was just another day.
But, for all who look to the Light and recognize it as Life, God gives the right to become his children! (John 1:12-13 paraphrased)
Prayer: Like the daily miracle of sunrise, let your truth and grace miraculously beam into our dark world, Lord Jesus Christ. Mercifully incline those who are careless or blinded by darkness to look to The Light and become renewed, your refracted light. Pierce my own heart and intellect with your transforming truth and grace today.
