Reflection: Holy, Holy, Holy
The very first thing we’re told about God is he is the creator: ‘In the beginning God created…’ (Genesis 1:1). This is the first reason we should sing and praise God.
In Revelation 4 the apostle John is taken to heaven, and into the throne room of God. He then describes what he sees and hears. It blows his mind. It is so indescribable he can only use fantastic picture language (vv.3-8).
The vision climaxes with a picture of all the heavenly creatures in unceasing worship of God. And they worship him because ‘you created all things’. Every atom and molecule. Every bee, spider, and fly. Every salmon, trout, shark, and whale. Every lion, tiger, and panther. Every rooster, chicken, cow and horse. Every eagle, emu, robin, and owl. Every Paraguayan, Filipino, Ugandan, Korean, and Australian. They’re all made by God who deserves their worship.
The existence of all things is not just the natural procreation of species. As the fall of every sparrow is under God’s control, so is its coming forth from its tiny egg. So, let’s begin today praising the God who made the earth, sky, and sea, all living creatures, and you and me, ‘the people close to his heart’ (Psalm 148:14).
Prayer:
We praise and worship you almighty and gracious God, for all your gifts in creation. We thank you for the beauty of this world, for earth, sky, and sea, for plants, animals, fish, insects, and birds. To you belong all the glory. Amen.
