Reflection: What is it that God says to his fearful fallible people when they find themselves captives to the worst circumstances in life? What does God say to his people when they are desperately looking for hope? This is what he says: ‘See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hand’ (Isaiah 49:16). This is powerful imagery, and these are powerful words. They are powerful for good reason. God wants to get a profound truth through to us. His love and ownership of you is neither temporary nor fickle. It is permanent and deeply personal. God, in his grace, is totally committed to you. Your name is ever before him.
And if you look at God’s hands, you will see the scars left there by the nails––scars that remind you of the price God paid to rescue you back to himself.
God’s hands are eloquent. They say a lot that is profound.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I can’t begin to conceive how you, the God of the universe, can have my name engraved on your hand. All I can say, is that I am grateful beyond that which words can say.
