Reflection: In this series, we’ve been talking about ‘intimacy with God’. Nowhere is this idea encouraged more than by the Bible’s reference to the church being a ‘bride’, and Jesus being the bridegroom. There’s not much that can trump that metaphor for describing the level of intimacy Jesus seeks to have with us. It is beautiful.
John the Baptist used the bridegroom analogy for Jesus (John 3:29), and Jesus himself repeatedly alluded to it, particularly in his parables.
However, it is in the final book of the Bible, the book of Revelation, that all references to Jesus being the church’s bridegroom reach their climax. It is a book that speaks about God’s “end game” where God’s final objective is achieved. It ends with the wedding of Christ (the Lamb) to his church.
I invite you to attend.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, you have made it possible for me to be with you and your Father––eternally. I can’t conceive of what such closeness with you will mean, but I’m looking forward to it. I thank you with all my heart.
