Reflection: At a time when gods were thought to be gods of a local geographical area, Moses picked up the truth that God was sovereign everywhere. This meant that if God was to show that he was not just a local god, his presence had to continually stay with his people.
It is little wonder than that God readily agrees with Moses’ request that God go with his people.
But Moses was not content with God simply being with his people through the symbol of a pillar of fire by night and a cloud by day (Exodus 13:21), Moses wanted to see and experience God. He asked that God show him ‘his glory.
I wonder whether you also have this hunger. If you have, expect God to show more of himself to you. In Moses’ case, God lets Moses see one particular aspect of his divinity––his goodness. God understood that if Moses understood that God was “good” it would lead to Moses having a right relationship with him.
I invite you to seek and discover the same truth.
Prayer: Lord my God, you have given me a taste of who you are and your character… and what you have revealed is beautiful. In my humanity, I can’t take too much of your revelation, but I hunger for as much as my heart can contain.
