Reflection: Christianity is not just believing in God, or knowing about God. It is something altogether more personal. It is knowing that God is with you in the most profound way he can be.
Moses had been given the task of rescuing the Hebrew people from slavery in Egypt and leading them to the promised land of Canaan. Nothing other than knowing God personally, and speaking with God ‘face to face, as a man speaks with his friend’ (Exodus 33:11) was going to give Moses the courage to fulfil this task.
And nothing else will give you the courage to fulfil yours.
Moses says to God, ‘If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.’ In other words, Moses says: ‘If you don’t go with us from here, I’m staying right here where you are.’ He couldn’t bear to be parted from God’s company.
And as a result of this, the nation of the Jews was born… and God’s plan to rescue humanity back to himself came a step closer to fulfilment.
What will happen as a result of you seeking the same intimacy with God?
Prayer: Dear Father, I cannot face living without knowing you, your love and your hope. Please never let me travel through life without having you in my heart.
