Reflection: There have been many times in my life that I have been a fool, blithely going my own way. Somehow God kept me safe in my foolishness. However, becoming a parent to our first child, an only child for his first seven years, our foolishness probably became more evident. This child was born with a big personality. It seems to fit him better now that he has grown up, but did he try us every which way!
Over my years of parenting, there have been many times when I have felt helpless and hopeless. Whispered prayers to God as I have tried to find the right words for my youngest child over a phone in the middle of the night, as she despaired of living. Holding a sobbing teenage son, struggling with depression. Needing wisdom for a key moment in a child’s development when they stole from their classmates.
It is in those dark moments that I have found safety in God’s wisdom. He has delivered. It is not a magic trick. The problems don’t disappear, but we worship a God who is a living presence in our world.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, please forgive me for taking your care and intervention in this world for granted. It is remarkable that you hear my prayers along with the prayers of billions of other believers around the world. Help me to rest in your love and grace. Amen.
